Years ago when I was much younger I started an informal group with my best friend Mike and my youngest brother Norman called "The Eating Regiment". It came about innocently enough from a contest to see who could eat the most Gene and Jude's hotdogs in one sitting. As I said we were alot younger and those days were much simpler and to me... alot more fun.

Since then Mike and I are still best friends, but now an hour's drive away, Norman goes by Pete and moved to Georgia, and I haven't had Gene and Jude's for quite awhile. But... when Jean and I decided to change our blog's name to encompass more posters, there was only one name that felt right.

So welcome to our blog. We're not food critics so you won't find "stars", "forks", or even "thumbs" going up and down. Instead, we have pictures of good food and people enjoying them. Simply... if you find an eatery on our blog you can assume our "thumbs up". Oh and if you're wondering... I ended up eating a measly four hot dogs with fries, Norm had six, and Mike became the Regiment's unofficial leader by eating ten.

Cafe Petersborg - Copenhagen, Denmark

Cafe Petersborg is one of the oldest restaurants in Copenhagen whose history dates back to 1750. It got its Russian name "Petersborg" because the building housed the Russian consulate at that time and many Russian sailors - mostly from Saint Petersburg - touched at Copenhagen Custom House to satisfy their hunger and quench their thirst in these surroundings when on leave. The restaurant serves good, traditional Danish simple food.

Kate's Joint - Copenhagen, Denmark

It's simply called Kate's Joint! This place was packed with locals at 9pm on a Sunday night so we knew it would be good. You will find a combination of African, Indian, Indonesian and Caribbean food. Thanks to Kate, we had some of the most satisfying curry dishes in the middle of Copenhagen.

Konditori La Glace - Copenhagen, Denmark

Konditori La Glace is the oldest and probably the best confectionery in Denmark. Founded in the middle of old Copenhagen in 1870.

The Rubinstein Cake: rum mousse, macaroon bottom, and red currant jelly. Decorated with choux pastry dipped in chocolate and heaps of whipped cream. It is named after the composer and pianist Anton Rubinstein (1829 - 1894).

The Sports Cake: crushed nougat, whipped cream, macaroon bottom and caramelized choux pastry. It is the specialty of the house. Produced for the first time for the theatre play "Sports Man", which premiered the 18th of November 1891 at Folketeatret on Nørregade.

And the best hot chocolate in town!

Told & Snaps - Copenhagen, Denmark

Told & Snaps serves a variety of Smørrebrød (butter and bread open face sandwich). The place was very crowded and we didn't get in until almost closing time. But the food was worth the wait!

Snaps is a small shot of a strong alcoholic beverage in Danish and Swedish. Very strong indeed!

Icelandic spiced herring matured in the cask smørrebrød

Wagamama - Copenhagen, Denmark

OK, for whatever reason, I had Wagamama in London a few years back and really loved it even though the food was not the best. So we went to the one in Copenhagen because I was really craving for a big bowl of noodle.

Apple, mint and ginger juice

Chicken kare lomen: a spicy soup made from lemongrass, coconut milk, shrimp paste, red chillies and fresh ginger.

Salmon ramen: noodles in a chicken spiced miso soup topped with a grilled fillet of salmon, seasonal greens, menma, spring onions, wakame and carrots.

Kafé Satir - Nobel Museum Stockholm, Sweden

Kafe Satir at Nobel Museum was modeled on Café Museum in Vienna – one of the many cafés that were informal meeting places of intellectuals at the turn of the century.

Nobelglass med chokladmedalj (Nobel Ice Cream). It was served as dessert at the Nobel Prize Banquets 1976-1998. The ice cream is made exclusively for the Nobel Museum. Yumm!
